I haven’t ventured to the Windmill for a fair few months and to be honest with you, I didn’t realise how much I missed the place. As the anticipation built, we walked up Blenheim Gardens and the topic of conversation was full of bands I’ve seen here in their early days; Goat Girl, Lynks, Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, Squid and Deadletter just to name a few and how I had the same feeling walking up this street as I do now for Alien Chicks.
We bust through the door and where met by the smell of old dry vomit and the sound of thumping punky bass, and I knew I was home…
I first met Alien Chicks a few months ago and was blown away with their performance. After interviewing them I was very exited to see where they would end up next, and here I am at their sold out, headline gig at the windmill awaiting the release of 4th Single and my god they did not disappoint. The three of them on stage set the tone of the energy from the get go, it was intense! Stomper after stomper a real thought-out and practiced set with the exiting spiracle of mayhem. Alien Chicks have perfected their sound and have built a decent following for their gigs, with swarms of fans singing along to every word. Just as you thought they where going to give themselves a break from the high intenseness of the performance they began to do an eerie rendition of “Teddybears Picnic” and BAM! They took it up a notch in true Windmill style the whole crowd was bouncing. We where then met by the awaited first performance of “Cowboy” after the release which was all as fierce as the rest of the gig. The new single “Cowboy” explores themes of regret, confusion and self blame and as Alien Chicks spat out the lyrics you could tell every word was more meaningful than the last, I’m really exited about this band and “cowboy” is one of the many many reasons why! Please click the link below and let their yammer breach your ears. Alien chicks are currently on a UK tour do not miss them, you’ll regret it!
